ElectronVibe 2021

Multi – Discom Focus

A business-case development competition for which we identify a common problem statement faced by multiple Indian electric utilities, and then undertake an open call to select mature power sector startups that have innovative solutions that address the problem statement(s).
Examples of thrust areas around which problem statements would be created include grid modernization, integration of more renewable energy, distributed power generation, EV infrastructure etc.

Problem Statements

The problem statements will be arrived at by taking a consultative approach via a series of roundtables where Indian electric utilities along with other stakeholders in the power sector will participate.

Problem Statement

Solutions for optimized operations and management of a smart and decarbonized grid

What is the Problem
Discoms face a multitude of operational risks, including unbalanced load, low billing efficiency, equipment safety & physical damage, as well as electricity theft. This leads to an increase in their aggregate technical and commercial losses, on account of preventable downtime (e.g. due to mishaps) and equipment replacement

What are we looking for
Grid management solutions for better risk assessment, asset mapping & monitoring, billing systems and energy accounting, using real-time data to help discoms improve operational and technical efficiency to eventually transition to a decarbonized smart grid.

Solutions

Mature power sector startups from India (and potentially, globally) would develop and submit business-cases based on their viable and scalable solutions, based on the problem statements, such as (an illustrative and non-comprehensive list):

For the Problem Statement
  • Solutions that can identify (and/or predict) electricity theft
  • Solutions that enhance grid-system reliability with visibility at the asset-level
  • Solutions that enhance equipment or human safety
  • Solutions that result in smart billing using data from smart meters and consumer information
  • Solutions that lead to better load flow management
  • etc
